Every page has a link near the top of the page under "Ad Management" called
"Login" Just click that, and a box will appear for you to enter your login name and password. Type this information into the appropriate fields, then click
"Submit."
You will then see a welcome message and your personal tool bar, which looks
something like this:
Your Ranch/Business Name
Email Notify | Place Classified Ad |
Update Classified Ad | Add / Change Photo
Update Ranch Page Info
| Add Catalog Horse | Edit Catalog Horse
Click the
"Update Ranch Page Info" link and make sure your registration information offers your visitors a good description of your Ranch or Business. The information on this form will affect how your ranch/business name appears in the catalog index, and also on every catalog page (and classified ads you might create in the future.) Try to include something in the "Ranch Description" field so visitors will know a little about you, your business and horse related things. It's not required, but it is a nice thing to offer. There is no space limitation here.
Placing horses in a catalog is almost identical to creating classified ads, so the online instructions are geared to setting up a classified. There are a couple more fields on the catalog horse submission form, and I will cover that first, here.
I will provide a link below with detailed instructions on placing ads.
A single user account should be the only one you need, now and in the
future. It is important NOT to set up additional user accounts, because
that will cause an incomplete index of your horses to come up when people click the
"view our current listings" link that appears on every catalog or classified page, as well as on your ranch page.
If you should happen to have multiple user accounts already, please get in touch with Andrea by email to see if it's possible to combine all your ads into one
account and deactivate the others.
Unless a user is a member of at least one catalog, their personal toolbar ONLY contains the first 5 links shown above. The last two, "Add Catalog Horse" and "Edit Catalog Horse" only appear
after a user has been added to a catalog.
Therefore, you must
take care to enter horses in the appropriate category by selecting the proper link to set up their page: Use "Place Classified Ad" for classified horses only.
Use "Add Catalog Horse" for those going into a catalog. (They will also automatically appear in the classified ads with a link to the consignment index in the catalog to which they are consigned. This takes place "behind the scenes" as you create a catalog page for each consigned horse. You do not have to do anything special for this to happen.)
Important to understand:
When catalog
members enter information for a catalog horse,
it does not appear online instantly.
This is because the catalog manager controls "activation" of each catalog horse submitted by members of their online catalog. The reason for this is to allow the catalog manager to check and see that the information is complete and correct before going online for the public to view. The manager also has the ability to deactivate, edit, or even delete a catalog entry. Obviously, they need the ability to do this, and by restricting those functions, a "member" does not have to worry about the possibility of making a serious mistake affecting the entire catalog or causing extra work for the manager.
Members DO have the ability to make changes in their catalog horse entries, such as editing the information, changing a photo, etc.
This is accomplished by logging in to your user account, clicking the
"Edit Catalog Horse" link, then selecting (clicking) the horse name from the list
of horses placed under this user account.
This will open that horse's entry form which will contain all the data currently submitted for that horse. Make your changes and click the "update" button at the bottom of the page.
It would be considerate to inform the manager by email when you have edited (or wish to edit) a horse, so they can take another look and be sure that everything is still in order.
Now, the link to online instructions for placing ads.
http://www.horsesonly.com/bho/help/place-ads.htm.
You will find step-by-step instructions at the above link. Please also notice the list of topics in the vertical menu at the left side of the page. This menu should cover nearly any function you should encounter. If not, you can click the last link in that menu, which is "Email for HELP." That is my email address, and I will send specific instructions for your problem. You may also reach me by phone at: 785-456-8600.
To place your ads: Login, and be SURE to click the "Add Catalog
Horse" link to bring up the catalog horse form.
The first function on the form is a drop-down list of catalogs that you are a member of. If you are only a member of one catalog, that name will display in the box as a default. In this case, you need to do nothing.
If you are a member of multiple catalogs, you MUST click the little button at the right end of the box to display the list of catalogs you belong to, and then you must click on the catalog this horse will be consigned to. This will place that catalog name in the display box. You may now proceed with filling out the information in the remainder of the form. Note that field names with RED colored labels are "required fields" and must contain information before the form can be submitted.
An item found on this form that is not part of a regular classified ad form, is the
"Lot Number."
These are not assigned by the computer, so you are free to number and re-number, replace scratched horses, etc. Note: Use numbers only. This is a
"Required Field" ... meaning that each cataloged horse
must be
assigned a number. You may skip numbers, but it is not a
good idea to use the same number more than once.
These numbers are
necessary to make the Arrow Navigation work correctly for your online
catalog visitors, so they can browse your catalog directly from
page to page by clicking the "Next" or "Previous" arrows.
A single "user" account should be the only one you need, now and in the
future. It is important
NOT to set up additional user accounts, because that will cause an incomplete index of your horses to come up when people click the
"view our current listings" link that appears on every catalog or classified page, as well as on your ranch page.
If you should happen to have multiple user accounts already, please get in touch with Andrea
by email to combine all your ads into one account before
creating your catalog!
If you are not sure if you have multiple accounts set up, we
will check on that for you.
You can make changes in catalog horse entries,
like editing information, changing a photo, etc.
Do this by clicking the
"Edit Catalog Horse" link from your management
tool bar, then selecting (clicking) the horse name from the list of horses
which will be displayed.
NOW!
Create Press-ready printed catalog master pages with a click!

Because of this, you see 2 entry boxes for the horse "Description"
area in catalog horse submission forms.
-
Everything in the first
"Description box will appear in your printed
catalog. This box is
limited in the number of characters that will fit your chosen catalog style, and a counter is provided to help you know when you have reached that limit. (I will help you determine what that
approximate number will be.)
The
2nd "Description" field
is
unlimited in the amount of information it
will hold. NOTE: Some text must be present
in the first "Description" box before information from the 2nd box
will display online.
|
Everything in BOTH "Description" boxes will display in the online catalog
AND classified companion ads.
-
ONLY the text in the first "Description" box will display in the special printed catalog format.
When you are finished adding or updating horses, you can click the
"Logout" link near the top of the window ... the last item on the "Ad Management" column.
If the photos you plan to use need to be cropped or have background distractions
removed, please send them to me directly by email, and provide the name of the horse or Ad ID number so I can do this for you and attach the image. There is no extra charge for this service, and it is actually easier for me if you send the photo directly. Once it has been placed online, our automatic photo handling program has optimized the image for web use, and this makes it more difficult for me to work with.
