Setting Up the "Simple" Pedigree Report

Step-by-Step set-up for the "Simple" unformatted style
Adding the Report to your Catalog or Classified Page

Return to Formatting Overview main page

UNFORMATTED STYLE . . .  Click to view no-sweat unformatted sample report..  (Very Simple)

FIRST: decide whether you do or do not want your report to to use any Bold Type. (Which draws attention to the names of horses who have earned various show and racing accomplishments.)

The AQHA "black type" system for this report is as follows:

If the horsešs name is displayed in bold type in all upper case ...
 Example: HORSE NAME:

  • The horse has earned a World Championship or

  • The horse has earned an AQHA Championship or

  • The horse has earned a Superior Award or

  • The horse has earned a Versatility Award or

  • The horse has earned a Performance Championship or

  • The horse has earned a Performance Championship or

  • The horse has earned a Supreme Championship or

  • The horse has earned $10,000 or more in a combination of the
Incentive Fund Program and AQHA other alliance earning or

  • The horse has won an AQHA stakes race

If the horsešs name is displayed in bold in upper and lower case ...
 Example: Horse Name:

  • The horse has earned a Reserve World Championship or

  • The horse has earned an AQHA Register of Merit Award or

  • The horse has earned $1,500 or more in a combination of the Incentive Fund Program and AQHA other alliance earnings or

  • The horse has placed in an AQHA stakes race

Otherwise the horsešs name is displayed in regular type ...
Example: Horse Name.

If you DO NOT want the AQHA "black type" in the report ~ just Copy and paste the Peformance Pedigree Report you have ordered from AQHA into a text editor such as "NotePad." (This removes all text formatting.)

Simple Performance Pedigree Visual  - see how your tagged page should look.

Then copy and paste that file into  the "description" box in any www.buyhorsesonly.com  or www.CatalogMagic.com  catalog horse submission form.

(There are 2 description dialog boxes.  Paste the entire report into the first (upper) box.  Scroll to the bottom of the form and click the "Submit" or "Update" button to save.  In a few seconds,  a confirmation message will appear with a link to view the page over the web.

Everything should look fine,  and you are done!  Congratulations!

       Simple Performance Pedigree Visual

NOTE: The pedigree chart names will need to be typed or copied and pasted into the submission form Pedigree Chart table.  The above instructions take care of everything else.

A.)  TO PRESERVE "black type"  ~ Copy and paste the report below the pedigree chart into a word processor, such as Microsoft Word, or WordPad where bold text and paragraphing is visible.

TIP:  Another very satisfactory way of retaining the bold formatting is to start a "new" email document in your regular email program (I use Outlook) and choose "HTML" as the format.  (Be sure to do this.)  Copy and paste  the report below the pedigree chart into the blank new email page,  then save the email (CTRL-S)  ...  or click "FILE" from the text menu,  then click "save" from the dropdown.) This will save the file in you email program's Drafts folder. You can even put the horse name in the subject line,  which will make it easy to find in the document list in your email "Drafts" folder.

Then continue following the following instructions:

B.)  DESIGNATE BOLD TEXT:
Immediately in front of the first character of bold text, insert this: <b>
Right after the last bold character in that word or phrase, insert: </b>

These "tags"  tell web pages where to start and end <b>bold text</b>
Do not leave character spaces before or after the text you wish to format as bold text.

If you start bold text and forget to end it,  all text following the <b> tag will display as bold,  even if you start and end bold tags correctly after a missed </b>.
HINT:
If you discover that your entire report is bold,  don't panic.  Just look past the first <b> tag and you will find a place where you forgot to enter an "end bold" tag </b> following a bold word or phrase.  Just type </b>  where the bold text should end and everything will look the way it should.

(If not,  continue looking for another missing tag or an extra "start bold" <b> tag,  and remove it.  Either error can cause too much text to be bold.)

Simple Performance Pedigree Visual - see how your tagged page should look.
 Proceed with the next step:

C.) You can save this working document for future reference if you wish, but it is not necessary. TO SAVE IT,  select the entire report by holding down your CTRL key and tapping the "A" key once. CTRL-A  (That will select ALL text.)
Now hold down the CTRL key and tap the "C" key to copy all the selected text into memory.  Proceed with the next step:

D.) Now open a text editor, such as "NotePad", place your cursor in the window, and paste in all the text you just copied into memory by holding the CTRL key down and tapping the "V" key. This will place unformatted text into the Notepad with some text displayed as paragraphs by blank lines.
This is how it should look.

       Simple Performance Pedigree Visual

(See more shortcut tips for copying and pasting here.)

E.) You should save this text file in a folder you create especially to hold these working performance pedigree files, such as "perfpeds" If you name each file using the name of the horse, it will be easy to retrieve later should you want to. Example: Zan Parr Bar's pedigree file might be "zanparrbar.txt" (Text files do allow spaces in the file names, so you might even want to leave a space between the words like this: "zan parr bar.txt")

  OPTIONAL ... EDITING YOUR REPORT:

If you wish to make your finished report shorter, you can now go through and delete less important information which you do not wish to display. There is usually a fair amount of this, since the information is offered as a "semi-edited" report.

Simple Performance Pedigree Visual  ~ This is how your edited report will look.

Now you are ready to Add the Report to your catalog page or classified ad.
