LOST PASSWORDS -- At the top of
most of our classified and help pages, you will see a link
labeled "Password
Retrieval" You can click that link and you will be
prompted to type in your user name. Your password will then
be automatically emailed to you very quickly. You can also click
HERE to go
directly to that tool.
If you have forgotten
both your user name and password, of
course, you cannot use the automated password retrieval
system. Please email the webmaster at
hoofnote@wamego.net
and we will send it to you at your regular e-mail address
ASAP.
Try to avoid submitting another user registration
just because
you have forgotten your password. This prevents your sale listings
from coming up as a complete group if they are scattered between
multiple accounts. The only way to consolidate them after the fact
is to re-submit under the desired user account, which is a
lot of extra work for you. So, always
contact us if you need help or
have forgotten your login or password.
I PLACED A
FREE RANCH PAGE. Where can people find it?
At the top of every Classified page, you will
find tools (links) under 3 categories: Search, Ad
Management, and
Help. The first link under
"Search" is "Find a Ranch."
<-- click
here, and you will see 4 search properties. You can
use any or all to narrow your search results.
NOTE: If you do not select the country you live in while
submitting your "First Time Sign Up" ... your ranch or
business will NOT come up under the state/province "Find A
Ranch" search. If you forgot to select the
"country," just Login and select "Edit
Registration" to make this correction and click the
"Update" button to save the information.
I PLACED A
HORSE AD AND IT DOESN'T SHOW UP ANYWHERE.
You may have described your horse on the "First
Time Sign Up" form, which is only for your contact
and business information.
This form lets you create your login name and password, and
sets up your personal toolbar. To place an ad, go to
the BuyHorsesONLY
home page and use the "Login" link at the top of the
page. This will give you a "welcome back" message
and provide your personal toolbar.
Click "Place an
Ad" to submit information on your horse for sale or
stallion-at-stud ad.
You may have mistakenly registered under the
"Set Up a Sale
Catalog" link. This link is for online
sale catalog managers to initiate an actual online catalog of 20
or more horses as an indexed catalog. If you mistakenly
registered here, don't worry, I will fix it :-)
Go back and register again using the "First
Time Sign Up" link
I SPENT A LONG TIME FILLING OUT
MY HORSE FORM
- then it didn't "save"
It
is a good idea to begin by filling in all the pertinent blanks,
beginning with the fields that are labeled in
red text. These are
"required" fields. The ad cannot be submitted
without data in these blanks.
If you have a slow internet connection, such as a dial-up
modem, especially if you frequently lose your
connection, it is a very good idea to complete the
"required fields" first, then scroll down to the
bottom of the form and click the "submit" button.
Until you do this, the information you have typed in is only
recorded on your own computer. It is not "saved"
on the server. You must click the "submit" or
"update" button at the bottom of the form before the
information is actually "saved."
IMPORTANT: If you type in a
lot of information, then lose your online connection,
you will need to start over from the beginning and retype
everything, because you did not actually "save" it
to the server. Once you click the "submit" button,
you can choose "Update Classified Ad"
from your tool bar. This brings up a list of all horses you
have placed into the system. Click
the horse's name, and the form you were working
on will display with the information you already entered and
saved. You can then continue filling out or changing or
correcting the data you already submitted. The
"submit" button at the bottom will now say
"Update" because the computer knows
you have already performed the initial submission.
VIEWING
COLOR IMAGES ON THIS SITE:
If your picture looks blotchy, the color setting
for your monitor may be too low. Your monitor and display adapters
determine the number of colors that can appear on your screen.
Many monitors are set lower than they need to be. For best
results, you may want to increase the number of colors your
monitor displays:
1. Click the Start button, and then point to Settings.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click the Display icon.
4. Click the Settings tab.
5. In the Color Palette list, click High Color, 65536 Colors or
True Color.
SITE IS RUNNING SLOW, and I have a fast DSL connection.
Something you might try is checking your cache and
temporary internet history settings. (Tools -- Internet Options --
General) Setting your cache to
100 megabyte and emptying it's
contents might take care of the problem like magic. I
keep my history setting at 3 days, which is less than most people,
but default settings are MUCH higher than most people need.
Click on Delete Files to clear out the already stored internet
files that may be slowing down your system. Click OK to accept the
deleting of your temporary internet files and click OK to close
that window.
Additionally, under your General Internet settings, look at "Check
for newer versions of stored pages..." If you set
it to bring up new pages "Every time you start Internet
Explorer," this will assure that your browser will always
bring up fresh content. Otherwise, it will bring up previously
visited pages stored on your hard drive. These may be
outdated on sites with constantly changing content. We have a lot
of information on our site, and a lot of photos. After a session
of exploring it a lot, your browser could easily be trying to
store too much in memory.
If you are using Netscape, under the Edit menu, click Preferences.
In the left hand column click on the + in front of the word
Advanced. The options cache, proxies, disk space will appear.
Click on Cache, then click on the button Clear Memory Cache and
then click on the button Clear Disk Cache. Click OK to close that
window.
After you have cleared your temporary internet files from either
browser, close down your browser (disconnect from the internet).
This will allow your internet to reset.
Also, turning off your DSL boxes for about a minute, then
starting them up again will often make a dramatic difference in
speed.
Lastly, your ISP could be having temporary problems with
the DSL system. If you still have a dial-up modem, you might
try using that and see if it is working better than your DSL.
If so, you should probably call your phone company or ISP.
