Lori Munro

May, 2000
Every breed of horse has it's supporters. Those who give themselves to their breed of choice and are steadfast in their devotion. "Champions" of the breed, as they are sometimes referred to.  The Appaloosa horse has a big champion in Ontario, Canada, dressed typically in striped overalls,  carrying a manure fork in one hand and a laptop in the other. Her name is Lori Munro.

Read Spin Micky Mouse,  her first contribution.

Horses were always one of the main focuses of Lori's youth. Like many little girls, she often believed that one day, she would indeed sprout hooves and actually become one. After all, most horse books show some pretty great
drawings of the evolutionary cycle of the horse so why, in an active imagination, could there not be one more yet undiscovered cycle?

Pacifying the desire to some day either become a horse or at the very least, just be with one,  Lori began drawing horses at around 5 years of age. Much to the amazement of her grandparents and other family members, the horses were "anatomically correct" .... They guessed that she had be paying pretty close attention!   Equine art was something that Lori excelled at and took off with full-bore. Churning out several works per day for many years, Lori's ability to capture the essence, mood, and yes, anatomical detail of the horse had been honed very carefully.

Writing also came naturally to Lori early on. While only a teenager,  Lori was hired by a monthly automotive publication as a feature contributor. While horses were always "a given", or a way of life,  the automobile also played a big factor in Lori's early years and development. Becoming a nationally published writer at 18 only provided the confidence needed to carry forth with the craft.

Fast forward to 1996. The internet virtually exploded during this decade and Lori saw the full potential at her first viewing of an internet browser. With "wheels turning," the thoughts of creating a presence on the web for the Appaloosa breed was extremely intriguing!  A self-taught crash-course in html saw the launch of Lori's first web site which was devoted to her own farm and horses. The graphic end came easily with her background in art, layout and design. Juggling graphics with html was another thing!

Lori Munro - Lori spends most of her leisure time entertaining her 11 colorful, spotted charges, and her three Australian Shepherds. Fill-in jobs include gardening, sword swallowing,  ATV'ing, auto racing, tractor pulling and free lancing in both equine and automotive journalism and graphics. Her work has been published in Performance Horse Magazine, Northern Horse Review, Cal-Western Appaloosa Magazine, Sundance 500 Newsletter, Vintage Vehicles / Wheelspin News, Equine Ranching and many more...
